It's full name is Gandantegchinlen; built in 1840, and one of the largest and most important in Mongolia. It was not destroyed in the religious purge of 1937 however. An agent of the Mongolia KGB was installed as head monk in 1980 where he stayed until religious freedom was granted in Mongolia in 1990. Mongols visit the monastery where a full complement of monks studies and worships.

  • Philip Zimmerman: a data security expert who wrote a famous cryptography program for encoding computer communications, at the IT Conference on Computer Freedom and Privacy in San Francisco, California (1995) Zimmermann created a powerful encryption program called "Pretty Good Privacy" (PGP) and made it available for free. Zimmermann is in trouble now because his "cryptography for the masses" slipped out of America via the Internet and has been downloaded by many foreigners. He was being investigated for violating a federal weapons-export-law. (Because it makes it hard for the Feds to eavesdrop on the Internet when people encrypt their messages). According to Moller, it is able to be driven as a normal car, but also has four large turbofans, which provide the thrust to lift it into the air. Once in the air, the fans turn backwards to propel the skycar like an airplane. The Moller team says it will be able to reach speeds of up to 375 miles (600 kilometers) per hour. (From the book What I Eat: Around the World in 80 Diets.) The caloric value of his day's worth of food in the month of September was 2,000 kcals. He is 59 years of age; 5 feet, 7 inches tall; and 240 pounds. Din came to the United States as a young man in search of freedom and opportunity and remains pleased with what he found. He has lived in Chicago for 25 years and has been driving a cab for the past two decades, five to six days a week, 10 hours a day. He knows where all of the best Indian and Pakistani restaurants are throughout Chicago, but prefers his wife's home cooking above all. His favorites? ?Kebabs, chicken tika, or biryani?spicy food,? he says. Tika is dry-roasted marinated meat, and biryani is a rice dish with meat, fish, or vegetables that is highly seasoned with saffron or turmeric. MODEL RELEASED. .

Theodore Roszak, writer, professor at California State University, Hayward, California. Roszak spoke at the conference on a panel discussion on "The Case Against Computers: A Systematic Critique" with Jerry Mander of the Elmwood Institute and Richard Sclove. This portrait is in his office at Cal State, Hayward. Roszak has written a number of books, including The Making of the Counterculture, the book that named a generation. . Roszak said, "Computers are like genies that get out of control." ."The cult of information is theirs, not ours." ."Every tool ever invented is a mixed blessing." ."There never will be a machine that makes us wiser than our own naked minds.".((Roszak was most uncooperative, saying he was very busy and that it was not to his advantage to be in an article in Germany when his recent books are not translated into German.   • Seeming to touch the objects on his screen, Peter Berkelman, then a graduate student at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Institute in Pittsburgh, PA, scoops up virtual blocks with a special device that communicates the sensation of touching them. The device, which has a handle suspended in powerful magnetic fields, can move with all six possible degrees of freedom: up and down, side to side, back and forth, yaw, pitch, and roll.
