  • Asensia and Carmen Huaman cook tanyo kuro worms in a clay pot over a fire in the family's kitchen while guinea pigs (cuy), also a food source for these Peruvians, feed on the muddy floor. Asensia says her family always eats worms with parch corn. This is corn that dries completely on the stalk before harvesting. It's heated on the fire until its kernels plump up slightly.
